Area attractions

New River GorgeŃNational River
The New River carves a breathtaking canyon through the highlands of southern West Virginia -- a landscape so fantastic it's become part of our national parklands. The river is among the world's best whitewater rafting streams. The gorge is also the largest rock-climbing area in the East.

Gauley River National Recreation Area
The raging Gauley River becomes one of the world's top whitewater rafting streams in October when waters are released upstream at Summersville Lake. The World Whitewater Rafting Championship has been held here for the past two years.

Hawks Nest State Park
The magnificent overlook, dubbed "Hawk's Nest," has entranced visitors since before written record. Today, this fantastic rock formation is central to a wooded park with a lodge, museum, restaurant, and aerial tram.
